Work Experience & Workplace Training
After completing the Diploma, you are eligible for at least 2.5-year stay in Australia to gain work experience through two stages: Occupational Training and Graduate Work Experience.
On completion, you will gain skills to carry out the following tasks:
¤ Developing and implementing progams to enhance the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of young children;
¤ Providing care for children in before-school, after-school, day and vacation care centres;
¤ Directing and supervising child care educators in providing care and supervision for young children;
¤ Ensuring the workplace is a safe area for children, staff and visitors;
¤ Complying with relevant government requirements and standards;
¤ Liaising with parents;
¤ Maintaining records and accounts for the childcare centre and
¤ Recruiting staff and coordinating professional development.
Wages of Early Childhood Educators—Australia
Types of Employment
When working in a childcare setting, you will be wither a full time, part time or casual employee. As per the Children’s Services Awards 2010, an employee working:
♠ Full time – works an average of 38 hours per week
♣ Part time – works less than 38 hours per week, has predictable hours of work and receives the equivalent conditions to those working full time
♥ Casual – works for temporary and relief purposes, with a minimum of 2 hours per day.
♦ The average wage for an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) is AU$22.26 per hour.
